The formidable old-fashioned Tudor in Jacksonville is bursting with character

Known as “Arbor Abbey”, a brick Tudor mansion with an opulent interior is on the market for the first time in over four decades.

Bulit in 1932, the house of Jacksonville, Florida, is now available for $ 2.45 million. The stately three bedroom residence is stunning from the outside. Inside, the house will leave a visitor with a case of sensory overload.

“This is one of my favorite homes, because of its appeal. I was a little amazed when I entered, because it is very plush, ”says the listing agent, Anita Vining with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

Inside the 3,514 square foot home, many finishes are original and formal. The high ceilings are mahogany and the floors are hardwood or Cuban tile. Several windows are stained glass and others are in the traditional Tudor style.

A buyer will acquire most of the furniture seen in the opulent ad photos.

“All the drapes and things you see would stay,” Vining says, while acknowledging that the style might be too rich for some buyers to taste.

“They’re all velor from floor to ceiling, which is beautiful,” she adds. “They are just different from what you typically see.”

Some of the house’s colorful stained-glass windows are original and others were added later.

“There are stained glass windows in almost every room in the house,” the officer explains.

The imposing kitchen has an abundance of dark wood cabinetry and stone countertops.

The bedrooms in the house are large, but the agent told us they lack crucial features that today’s buyers are looking for, including larger bathrooms and more closets.

“In a 1930s house, they just didn’t have a lot of storage space,” she says, “because they were using cabinets and other furniture.

The residence sits on a half acre lot and has well maintained grounds to the front and back. A large courtyard pool evokes classic Hollywood style.

“It has an Esther Williams style pool,” Vining says.

A beautiful balcony on the upper level of the house is spacious and unique. The agent says he has the feeling of a fortress and reminds him of Windsor Castle.

A detached two-car garage has guest space above and opens up a few options for future owners.

“It’s very spacious, so if someone had a nanny or someone they wanted on the property, that would be a nice space for them,” Vining says. “[The buyers] maybe want to renovate and redo it, but the space is there.

An elegant office space, perhaps?

Just south of downtown and a short walk from the Saint John River, other historic homes can be found in this neighborhood. Finding a buyer willing to buy a bit of Florida history will require lowering expectations a bit.

“You couldn’t build the house for what we’re selling it for today,” the agent says, adding that many buyers at that price want bigger homes with more bedrooms.

The current owners have lived in the house since 1976. Vining says they hope to downsize and move on to something different.

Wherever they go, they will take their flock of pet geese with them, which live in a green and yellow structure behind the house.

“They even have their own little pond,” the agent says, noting that the vendors]are quite attached to their pets.
