âThe bathroom was at the top of my list of renovations when we moved here,â says the owner. âIt hadn’t been touched since the ’90s and consisted of hard gray granite-like tiles, sharp angles and awkward fittings. I didn’t even like going in there and wanted a much softer space, âshe continues. All this was soon a distant memory, replaced by a fluted and dreamlike pink bath!
The couple opted to stick with the existing layout, which has simplified the plumbing and includes a separate shower. Lockdown delays in getting the materials prolonged the renovation, but the end result was well worth the patience.
âAfter such a long wait, my first bath in the new bath was lovely – lots of bubbles, a podcast and a glass of wine. It’s just a beautiful space to be, âsays the owner. “The bathroom is so pretty and I love that it looks like no one else.”

This striking bathroom project transformed a cold dated space into a chic sanctuary filled with jaw-dropping elements.
âI’m definitely a bath person so this was the first thing I looked for. When I saw this beautiful fluted pink tub, I had to have it, and I chose everything else to fit it, âsays the owner.

âThe bath had to be the main feature and that’s the first thing you see. It’s so delicate and feminine. It’s made from a resin compound that is hot and retains heat, so it’s also functional, âsays the owner. The plinth gives the bath even more impact.
âI wanted a marble-look floor that wasn’t slippery, so these large porcelain tiles were a good choice and not too expensive. They work with underfloor heating, and I like the large scale, so the markings stand out, âshe says.

âI like the discreet symmetry of the sink, which draws the eye to the sink. The paneling has been carefully positioned to frame it, with the taps mounted centrally above, âsays the owner.
âWhen I spotted the basin, I knew it would be perfect because it echoes the other curves and textures of the room. The sink was a really lucky find. I wanted natural wood furniture for a softer feel, and it’s an ideal size, with a useful shelf and drawers, âshe says, of the idea of ââpractical extra storage for the bathroom.
The twin mirrors are tiltable and adjustable in height, and reinforce the light. The delicate gold rim of the basin is a nice finishing touch. âIt’s glamorous and connects it to the other metallic elements in the room. “
Lighting

Clever bathroom lighting ideas include wall sconces that echo the fluted theme. âI wanted the lighting to stay simple and not too harsh, just with the two around the mirror and one above,â says the owner.
âIt took me a while to find a very nice ceiling light, but this small chandelier with its brass scallops did the job perfectly.

âI played with the idea of ââtraditional Victorian-style faucets, before falling for the sleek elegance of these modern brushed brass faucets. They are fun to use and I love how they contrast with the beauty of the bath, âsays the owner.
Modern shower

A modern and smart shower design keeps the flow of the room open and contemporary. âThe walk-in shower has a different feel, because my husband is the main user of it,â says the owner.
âI think the navy and pink combo works well and the brass are all matched,â she continues. “The scalloped tiles harmonize with all the other curves in the room.”
