If you are looking to remodel a bathroom with a smaller footprint, it is worth taking note of these little bathroom ideas that Simply Bathroom is implementing on a project. The designer managed to answer a tough brief, hugging himself in a traditional freestanding tub and a superb walk-in shower in a small space.
Previously there was only a bath with a shower over the top, a toilet and a sink in this room. But, with a smart bathroom design, it is now much more spacious and luxurious than it was before.
Simply Bathrooms moved the bathroom door and installed a walk-in shower, which in our opinion are the key elements that made the area bigger. The consistent use of porcelain marble also helps create the illusion of a larger space rather than having different textures and colors dividing the space.
Sharing their best advice for someone doing a similar remodel, the designers said: “Always consider the benefit of a tiled wet room, over a shower stall and tub, as they tend to be more space-saving.” .
“If you are thinking of buying a breathtaking freestanding tub, we always try to plan it under a window to allow it to take center stage,” they add. The bath used here is from BC Designs.
Color also plays an important role in the feeling of space in a bathroom. “The room has a lot of natural light, so we opted for darker, contemporary accent colors to add depth and keep the marble from looking too traditional,” says the designer. Simply Bathrooms used Farrow & Ball De Nimes paints on the walls, Inchyra Blue on the bathtub and Railings on the cabinet.
Before, the tub and overhead shower were on the left when you stood in the doorway, with the toilet in front of you and the sink against the right wall. Now the layout has totally changed so that when you walk into the sink and the toilet is on the left, the bathroom is directly under the window and the shower is on the right. “We have finished reworking the bathroom layout and combined traditional product shapes like the Roman tub and floor-mounted vanity unit with contemporary colors,” said Simply Bathrooms.
The bathroom now has a wet room with a custom foldable shower screen, which folds up when not in use. This is a great idea for a small bathroom as it offers more space than a conventional shower tray and bulky enclosure – check out our walk-in shower ideas for more inspiration.
“When we redesigned the layout, we added a slim box to the left side of the room to conceal the pipes, allowing for an ultra-thin toilet tank and contemporary wall-hung sanitary ware,” explains Simply Bathrooms.
The client dreamed of a bathroom that mixed modern and classic design elements, and we believe they succeeded. We also love how the new layout makes the gorgeous green boat bath the focal point.
